Día de San Valentín

I am a sucker for love.  Or at least all things that represent and celebrate love.  Yes, I am that girl that LOVES LOVE and I am not afraid to show it.  So when February comes around I get EXCITED for Valentine's Day!  You would think that I would be more excited about the fact that my birthday is in February, but nope.  I started crafting and crocheting gifts for my family and sending cards to people early.

I described my excitement to a friend on Facebook like this, " I'm such a little girl, I love Valentine' Day. In my head, I am the girl who still gives out cards to everyone in the class to make everyone feel good today. I even made myself a glitter heart shirt to wear when I am not going anywhere today. "  So what does a girl like me do for Valentine's Day--nothing.  My husband I have never really celebrated Valentine's Day.  He used to work at a restaurant and that was a big money day so I never needed us to celebrate that day.  Instead, we do little gifts and I spend the rest of the day making sure that I make everyone in my life that I love know it.  I sent gifts to my new nephew, I watched some sappy movies, and I made my husband dinner.

But since I am that little girl in my head who loves Valentine's Day, I needed something festive to wear for the holiday--even if my only plan for the day was to work out.  While reading my Glamour magazine last month, I saw that shirts and sweatshirts with glittery hearts on them were all the rage.  I thought PERFECT, but spending $45 on a sweatshirt is not my idea of money well spent.  So out came the paper stencils, glue, glitter, and $7 thermal from Wal-Mart.

I made stencils out of paper and my favorite heart shape.  Taped them to the shirt with paper tape.
I mixed the glitter and some glue and pained it inside the stencil.

While the glitter glue mixture was still very wet, I added extra glitter.
I then removed the extra little hearts and placed them around the big heart and repeated the process.
I let the glitter and glue dry a little more and removed the stencils.  Then I let the whole project dry for 24 hours, and followed up with an extra layer of glue to set the glitter.

See, I didn't do much for Valentine's Day but work out, but I was still festive.  (excuse the pic, I really took it right after I worked out).

Other Valentine's extras:

Instead of my usual high bun, I wore my hair with an upside down french braid with a bun on top. And my husband surprised me with a little Valentine's Day chocolate.  So sweet.

Year of the Blue?

When the NY Giants won the Super Bowl, Beyonce sent congratulations and said that it was the year of the Blue.  Like most who read this I related it back to her new baby girl Blue Ivy Carter (who is adorable BTW), but as I have been seeing posts from so many NYFW events I am becoming a believer.  I think for fashion, this really may be the year of the blue in so many hues and variations.  Below are some of my new favorite blue moments so far.
